> Is the end near?

The end of the world, is it near? Who cares? As long as we don’t notice it, and that it’s swift and painless, who cares? These things happen, and I don’t think that anyone on WordPress will have any effect on that inevitability. There may be some time before the end to think about it, but only if it’s announced beforehand, and enough experts, scientists, and theologians agree to its inevitability. How likely is that?

Unless there is a growing glowing fireball getting nearer every night

But this post is not about that ‘big picture.’ It is more about the pending extinction of this blog you are reading. Should it exist, or shall I let it dissolve into some interwaste dustpile? Here and now I can allow you, all of my six or ten subscribers, to kick in an opinion. I might even offer cash bonuses to hear your opinion.

But like the U.S. commands at the United Nations Security Council, I will retain full veto power over your votes. Life is tough, so stand by… segue.

When I retired from a major thought-provoking science club (Caltech), I wanted to stray away from my lifetime spent writing decent poetry and return to my roots writing prose. You know, finish the short stories I’d begun over the years, maybe revive the novel my ex-wife destroyed with my Visa, birth certificate, Viagra, and every scrap of creativity and memorabilia I left behind upon leaving. Of course, that’s another, very expensive story which might be sad to tell were I not so past it and happy now.

Oh, but this is supposed to be about WordPress and whether I want to remain working and posting here. Obviously, I am writing as a newbie. My findings and conclusions may be entirely naive, but still. Thus far, I find this space entirely pointless for presenting poetry. Writing, or even copy-pasting poetry from sites like Evernote, Blogger, Word, and any other site I’ve transferred work from, is very difficult to edit once pasted.

just me and you,
in a warm place
and deep
surrounded by grass

as green as most poets on Facebook
between wonder
and wonderment.

I don’t know. The most elusive thing I’ve discovered is to hide my poetry blogs from Blogger here on WP in plain sight. All of it is concealed in the form of their original form, posted as in their original Blogger blogs, concealed in a WordPress post. What’s the point of that?

My pattern has always been to conceive and edit my work on Evernote, move it to Blogger for editing, refinement, and eventual “publishing.” I’m a very slow writer. Short poems can take me years to complete. The question becomes whether I move the stories I have yet to complete from Blogger to WordPress and complete them here, or finish them on Blogger. Once transferred, there is little prospect of editing such posts. And again, what’s the point of that? Blogger is free.

But WordPress is pretty. It seems stable (Blogger’s font can randomly change its size, WP has a few font choices). It seems nice owning a domain, like being a king in a country of no kings. Also, I have learned a couple of tricks since I began this article, but the learning curve is steep for an old guy who hardly follows instructions and can barely retain them without a pocketful of Post-its. I need to give this more thought. I’m not about to go the vanity press route, but is buying a blog not the same? This post is becoming way to long for the attention span of my many haiku friends, so I’ll let it pause here.
