Reyn’s interlude…

And what of time?

Why allow it to remain? Time… Such a bother… You know, I try, but I will never catch those birds. They are always outside, and though I’m a cat, I’m an indoor cat. I will never manage to open the sliding glass door or break a window.

I simply do not have enough body weight for that. Nor have I been able to devise some way to make some big heavy object fall into a window and break through it. Trust me, I’ve pondered this for years.

My only hope  now is learning how to throw something. Maybe a plate, or a  ceramic bowl. I’m trying to reach those big coffee mugs, but they are on  the top shelf of a cabinet. If I could grab one from the dishwasher sometime when it’s open…

I learned as a kitten that trying to catch flies and moths flittering between the glass and the screen door is pointless and exhausting. It’s not even aerobic. And these birds, being beyond the screen, are even past the fence of our tiny patio. They flitter within pouncing distance, in and about the shrubs beyond. They are so close, I can almost feel their feathers in my mouth.

I’ve no doubt that I could dodge the errant leashed dog out there, maybe lead a coyote or two on a good chase. It’s more the murderous crows and random jay couples that worry me. They are fast, and clever. They fly out of nowhere, and they go for the eyes! I’ve seen them dive at mid-sized stray dogs. It’s terrifying!

So, I will wait. Maybe if I’m patient, a day will come when a person walks out the door to go… to go someplace, wherever people go when they go out there… And one of those little birds will fly in. Unnoticed, and then I can chase it all over. All around the house! Frantically! Gleefully. When I finally catch it, I’ll soak for some time in my water bowl before gifting it to my favorite person. Lying it gently on her pillow.
