Just Say Cheese (part one of two)

I feel embarrassed for the state of the world these days. Not that the situation is my fault, but it is my responsibility. I count the many cameras on my route to work each day. It’s a five mile commute, 153 cameras counted just today, Monday, October 21. On Friday, before the weekend, I counted 148 cameras.

That’s five new cameras installed along a five mile stretch just over the weekend, and I don’t count cameras placed in parking lots like those at the mall, or stores like Bed, Bath and Beyond or Radio Shack. It would number in the thousands!

I’m afraid, however, that this is their goal, to surveil everything about us.

It began with six cameras tacked to the signal poles at the intersection near my home. I thought they were there just to make sure the traffic signals were working correctly, so they could send someone out if a bulb went bad.

Now I understand more about why they are putting them up everywhere. It’s just in case they notice that we don’t know what we’re doing. Then, they can assist us by sending an authoritarian figure to our location to help us out or simply to shackle and deport us.

But, soon enough, they will come to realize that we don’t need them and that we know exactly what we’re doing.

A bit about Smoke (part two)

Run from your feather bed, little girl. Out and away to the field where smoke and fire fall as choking death. Those buildings, once our homes, are now but restless unsettled rubble, dirt and dust. Broken slabs and jagged cement. Tombstones marking graves of souls never to be found.

Run to the beach where fiery sandcastles are run down by the treads of tanks, impressing crushed bodies flatly into sand. War is over, if you want it. Seagulls dive from well upon high, picking fresh morsels, bits of flesh for fledglings to eat. Survivors assemble along the tidelands, seeking hope, but finding only what is lost, not parents, or children, nothing they seek.

Not even tears, like hope and help will ever arrive.
