Re-Tiredness

Note: this post is a last minute substitute for a post entitled “The Cloning of Susan Dell” which was considered unduly vulgar and controversial. -William Wittaker, Editor, Sana Fe Express.

There are so many days now when I wake up and can’t decide whether to spend the day being lethargic, lazy, or simply tired. Perhaps, if I were more motivated, or motivated at all, I could spend the weekend watching video or TV, being simply entertained and naturally sleepy and bored.

And why not? I’ve discovered how to re-tire on a monthly schedule which cycles as soon as my Social Security check drops into my savings account. This usually occurs on or about the 27th of most months.

Honestly, I can retire every week, even once a day if I so desire. It depends on how I schedule my income sources; retirement, investments, and other annuities. Then there’s that trust fund left by Uncle Bob, which technically could cover us for life and beyond. Then, of course, there are other income sources, legitimate and less so.

Frankly, who can keep track of it all? I can’t. It’s all a matter of automatic deposits and having a drawer full of debit cards. You know how it is.

I give my wife some house money every week, she plays Bingo at the Church on Wednesdays, and goes to the track Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Anything beyond fifteen grand that she earns from those sources we give to the Church, as much as fifty bucks anyway. And then to support the schools by buying Lottery tickets.

It all works out well for us. And our net these days is way more now, even after taxes, simply because we’ve chosen not to pay them.

I would have never believed this, that after working 35 years for a major science institute (we must call it Pacific Tech due to that pesky restraining order) that life would be so leisurely.  That we might retire into such a homeopathic final venue. That all our needs would be right at hand, and with no stress or struggle at all.

Living this dream, doing nothing, and giving nothing back (but that fifty dollars to the church). What more could a person ask for? I don’t even have to fold laundry, go shopping, or mow the lawn anymore.

We’re in the big league with Musk, Bezos, Zuckerburg, Paul McCartney, and the rest, but happy to be under the radar and smalltime. We need no data centers to control the world, just a reliable remote for the TV.
