“Remember, I’ll always be true.
And then while I’m away, I’ll write home every day…”*

Whenever she could, Mel managed her bar to allow herself five, sometimes six hours of sleep. Most nights she might be in bed before three a.m. Not tonight though. Tonight was special. Gigi was in town, Mel decided to stay up while Suzie chose to work late and close the bar out quickly so she could eavesdrop on her friends as they caught up on years that had passed in the corner booth
Gigi was clearly exhausted, but clinging to the conversation, her head nestled in her hands, elbows on the table. When Suzie looked to be preparing to go home Mel waived her to join them at the table. She knew Suzie was just as curious about Gigi’s new life in Charlotte as anyone, and she wanted her to hear more of their good old days when she was just a child.
Those were sweet times, not forgotten even after Sylvia came to town on her mission of desire and destruction. Seducing Bill and blackmailing him before absconding with his fortune.
Suzie brought with her the bottle of wine from earlier and three clean glasses, stems woven in her fingers. She placed it all near Gigi’s ashtray on the table. “I thought y’all might be thirsty. I sure am.” Adding slyly, “The cops can’t bust us if we don’t buy it!”
It was mostly Mel, Sylvia’s sister-in-law, who went on to recount the bitches carefully conceived deceptions, sensual mis-practices and her recreational treacheries. Mel was closest to Bill back then, and Suzie wasn’t even around, having been intentionally sheltered from those events by the family.
The three were moderately intoxicated but sober enough to navigate the streets of Quartzite if need be. Suzie wasn’t concerned, but Gigi, who had been so tired, was now energized and babbling. She had swallowed some Phen Phen when in the restroom. She’d been prescribed the medication for weight loss but found it handy to keep awake whenever necessary for her job.
As the clock passed three, Suzie was about to leave, but instead she poured a final tall glass of wine for each of them, They shared a final toast, “Friend’s, together or apart, friends together forever.” It was an odd quote Suzie somehow recalled from her uncle’s first book, “Gradual Graduations.”
As tired as she was, Gigi, the city girl quietly pulled out and lit a slim, tightly rolled number with her engraved gold Zippo. She took a hit, coughed daintily, and passed it on to Suzie.

Nice
Hi Catherin. Thank you for your like. Wordflowerpoetry looks interesting. I will try to follow it if i can clear issues I’m having with WP. Stay safe.
Thanks Dalton, I love it when people visit!
I’ve found that using the Jetpack app on my phone is helpful for making WordPress work
Thanks, Catherin. Jetpack stopped working when I lost the ability to sign into my WP account. My site works, but is crippled. Working with their AI was a circle of time-wasting. The Dreamcatchers are hard to catch and require rebriefing each session. I’ve been working at this disconnect with them since late May, 8-12 hours a week. We’re getting closer. I couldn’t even message like this for a long time. I’m most disheartened that I should be writing during those hours, and I do hope to hook up with Jetpack again soon. Keep well.
So sorry to hear that Dalton…I know someone who works there if you’d like me to put you in touch
I wrote some “beefs with WordPress” blog posts at one point and even the CEO read one of them
They also paid me in credits to do a feedback session
I’m still working with their Happiness Engineers. A title I can never recall. Smacks of Disney Imagineers, or something Apple. Cleverness is sometimes too cute to recall. We have made some headway, though. If this reply reaches you without my having to sign in, or subscribe again, or do much of anything except to press ‘comment’, then that’s progress.
My Gravatar is showing in the corner of this post that’s a good sign, but I just liked your comment above and was flagged to subscribe. Let’s see what happens if I send now…
Dang! It worked. Let me poke around some more and see how far “works” goes. I actually don’t use WP much with my phone, mostly for proofreading while editing from my laptop or one of my tablets.
The CEO of WP! Really? Maybe you can hire on as one of their Dreamfixers (what i call them). Watch out, or I’ll be copying all the texts and emails they’ve sent me, expecting you to sort it out.
I finally cracked the code and think I’ve got back. Thanks for your help and support, Catherin!
Hurrah! Finally!
Not so fast dear. It still doesn’t work as it once did, so time for more games. I finally broke into your site, however, and read the poem you accepted. Thanks for the exposure!
Great piece! Thanks for submitting it :)
